Reflection:
In the article, it mentions that "the teacher's role in the process model is to facilitate the writing process rather than to provide direct instruction, but the idea was proved wrong by the fact that there is little impact on the quality of writing product." From my own opinion, teachers should give students direct instructions which does not mean to break free writing down. Free writing is an important step in the writing process. However, without the guide of teachers, children are easily to lose their way on the road. They made mistakes without recognising them and would no like to revise for the final version. Habit is a powerful thing that need 21days to build up and uneasy to change once it is formed.
In the recent years, "the process approach model was regarded as applying mainly to stories, was linear and prescriptive."
Also, the writer considers the process model as encompassing more teacher direction in the process show more positive effects on the quality of students' writing. The book I read last week called Using the workshop, approach in high school english classroom., modelling is to demonstrate our own writing and reading habits to help students form their own and help them build community, trust.
"Teaching the process model now demands careful scaffolding and creating lessons." I think a series of problem-solving tasks are beneficial for students to form more dynamic and creative writing instead of unorganised, messy essays. We always want students to obtain the ability of critical thinking. Maybe problem-solving tasks are the right solution.
Critics hold the view that the process are used by professional writers and students are not able to engage the steps approximately. That concern truly makes sense to some point. Aside from the problem-solving tasks, we need to offer students more time to write. Affording time and presence to prewriting in the classroom is a major consequence of the process approach.
Writing process is quite complicated and multi-layered. We can do that for sure although facing a lot of challenges. But the world is changing, our strategies are evolving too.
